PRISON officers on Portland have refused to open cells after space of attacks by inmates.
Staff protested against opening cells after being attacked a number of times this week with urine and excrement, according to local newspaper reports, as well as being punched and kicked.
About 35 staff refused to open cell doors from 7.30am to 10am yesterday (Thursday).
It was agreed to take action after a meeting of the Prison Officers’ Association which says it would like to see troublemakers moved to another prison.
The reports come just over a week after two Portland prison officers spoke out publicly about their fear of being attacked every day at work.
